Beyond the Room
Welcome to the page that will give you the updates, insights and secrets you need to make your time at The Angel most enjoyable.
We cannot wait for you to join us here at The Angel Hotel, Cardiff.
January, we are nearly there, the end is in sight!
For some January is long, never ending, for others, it’s a clean slate, ready to start the new year fresh.
For us here at The Angel Hotel, it’s a time we use to reflect, to rejuvenate and plan for the year ahead. We like to review, refine and realign with the team, with ourselves and with you. There are many things to look forward to in 2026, we cannot wait to share all ideas with you.
First up – Rugby, Afternoon Tea and more Rugby!
Of course, the start of the year brings us our Six Nation Rugby Season. A season that is rich in our history, one that we love to join in on, even if Wales are playing somewhat questionable. This year it is no different. We are ready for Wales take on the Blues; France, Scotland and Italy, and as always, we look forward to welcoming you to The Angel to join us for our Angel Hospitality.
Reserve your table and enjoy lunch with us, we are literally steps away from the action (handy if it’s raining!)
We will be joined on the stairs by our favourite choir, Cardiff Arms Park Male Voice Choir, who will sing us into the season with our Welsh classics and Hymns.
If you’re in the mood for a quick bite, we’ve got you covered! This season, we’re welcoming a range of street food vendors to our car park, bringing you more choice and something a little different before the match. They’ll be serving some of their best dishes both pre- and post-match, all of which can be enjoyed from the comfort of the Dragon Suite here at The Angel. We’ll also be showing the game live on the big screens, so you can relax, stay warm, and enjoy the action while you dine.
Next up - Afternoon Tea, the classic sweet treat for any occasion!
Themes are making a return in 2026, and we’re beginning with something close to the heart… Love.
Inspired by the season of romance, the beauty of Spring, and a touch of all things Welsh, this special Afternoon Tea is the perfect excuse to gather, celebrate, and indulge.
Enjoy a delightful selection of delicate finger sandwiches, warm freshly baked scones served with jam and clotted cream, and an irresistible assortment of handcrafted mini cakes.
Whether it’s a catch-up with friends, a special celebration, or simply a treat “just because,” there’s always a reason to visit.
Beautifully presented and perfectly priced at just £21.95 per person or 2 for £40.
Then to finish the first quarter of the year - there is even more Rugby!
Bristol Bears Big Day Out is back at the Principality on the 28th March.
Make a day of it and kick things off with brunch from 11am before the action begins.
We’ll be serving up freshly made pizzas, stacked burgers, ice-cold pints (plus plenty of soft drinks for the kids), all ready to fuel you before kick-off.
Start the celebrations early and soak up the atmosphere with us before heading to the stadium!
So, as we prepare, get yourself booked in! Call us to secure your spot today - 02920 649200!
The first little note from our GM...
They say “every hotel has a story to tell,” and with the earliest record of the Angel dating back to 1666, we’ve got enough material to fill a small library… or a very long gossip column. We’ve hosted everyone from weary travellers to people who clearly just wanted to use our toilets — and we’ve survived them all.
I’m Richard Smith, the General Manager since 2019, which in Angel terms is basically the blink of an eye. I like to think of myself as the temporary ringleader in a centuries-old circus — the circus just happens to come with tea, comfy beds, and the occasional ghost (officially unconfirmed, of course).
These little posts will give you a peek behind the curtains: a few historical anecdotes, some upcoming events, the odd renovation, and probably some stories we shouldn’t be sharing. Whether you’re a guest, a local, or just nosy enough to be reading this, welcome to the Angel — where the history is rich, the beds are comfy, and the drama… well, that’s included free of charge
